Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology

The SCMG Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology is proud to support Scripps La Jolla Hospitals and Clinics’ #1 in San Diego designation for Gynecology services by US News & World Report, as well as directly contributing to its ongoing ranking as a top 25 provider in the country. The Department offers comprehensive, award-winning healthcare services, from routine wellness visits to diagnosis and treatment of even the most complex gynecological conditions. We promote maintenance of gynecological health throughout our patients’ lives, helping them to the appropriate fertility and reproductive options, caring for gynecologic cancers, treating bladder incontinence and other structural challenges, and managing menopause.

Our Department supports thousands of patients and families during pregnancy and birth every year, emphasizing compassion for both mother and child. We have recently established a new Maternal & Fetal Medicine (MFM) division exclusively devoted to helping patients navigate complex or high risk pregnancies. Each year the Department also successfully conducts thousands of gynecological surgeries, including tubal ligations, hysterectomies, and surgeries for ovarian cysts, fibroids and endometriosis, emphasizing minimally-invasive and robotic-assisted procedures. Beyond clinical practice, our teams are continuously engaged in teaching as well as research, exploring how the frontiers of science and medicine can improve care for female patients.

Department Chair: Ronald Salzetti, MD

Education

The Department is actively involved in clinical education of residents, fellows and allied health professionals. Residents in Obstetrics & Gynecology rotate to Scripps Clinic to gain more experience in gynecologic surgery. In addition, the Scripps Minimally Invasive Gynecological Surgery (MIGS) Fellowship is a two-year program accredited by the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL). The fellowship is designed to provide state-of-the-art training in all forms of minimally invasive gynecologic (MIGS) surgery, minimally invasive therapies and noninvasive diagnostic testing, as well as training and development in clinical research design and execution.
